Hess Truck Inflation
Christmas is 41 days away and a Hess Truck was always a popular toy. It was available at gas stations and a parent always had to fill up at least once during the holiday season.
It was a revolutionary toy when it first came out in 1964 because it had operating head and tail lights. That first Hess Truck retailed for $1.29 which was the cost of approximately 4.3 gallons of gas (at $0.30/gal) at that time.
Today with the national price of $3.35, Hess trucks cost 12.8 gallons of gas at $42.99. You cannot buy a Hess Truck at the gas station any longer — most sales are done online — so maybe parents will not notice the increase.
